Doing what I could to help fix the leak
The Deep Water Horizon Accident was a horrible event that we will remember for a long time, and as a surfer and marine animal nut, the accident was a call to action to help BP get the leak under control. Right at the start, my step Dad and I began discussing ideas to cap the leak... and using some farm experience with wells, the Jerry Plug was created.
As more dimensions were released, and after realizing the cut off pipe was not circular, I came up with the grapple design that utilized the flange as a rigid mounting point.
Neither design was ever used, but it was still a rewarding experience designing something for such a cause.
